5 Side Hustles to consider
During my debt free journey, I have worked so hard to clear debt and cash fund large expenses. At the beginning, I tried my best to find a second role but with childcare commitments and a full time role, this just didnt seem possible, there was often a crossover in timings and it felt impossible. This is where I turned to the Side hustling aspect. I decided to get creative in selling old items or temping at the RoyalMail to bring in those extra pennies. Facing multiple set backs, it hasn't been easy and therefore I have found it very useful to turn to this rather than relying on credit. It may only be £5 here or £20 there but it sure does add up.
In this blog post I share 5 side hustles to consider along with a freebie printable to help you track your money made.
1. Market Research
Fancy sharing your opinion and getting paid? Market Research is great! Depending on the study, it can be totally different settings or topics but I have always enjoyed it. From a group discussion to a Zoom 1 to 1 phonecall, It is a quick and easy way to bring extra income in.
Pros: It's fun and often an informal chat based on interesting topics
Cons: It's not a guaranteed income source and it can be hard to qualify for a study.
Companies to try: Rocket Research & Focus4people
2. Mystery Shopping
Do you need to buy a few items from the shop? You could get a proportion of this reimbursed if you conduct a Mystery shop. Mystery shops consist of you heading into a shop and being super observant, you may ask customer service assistants questions or check the tidiness of the store. It can vary! In addition, there are often a few assignments which you can conduct on the phone.
Pros: You get reimbursed part of your spending and get a fee for the assignment
Cons: It can be very time consuming and in the current climate they are very few assignments available
Companies to try: Esa Retail, Grassroots & Ipsos
3. Selling old or unwanted items
One of the first things I did at the beginning of my debt free journey was have a huge clear out. I sold items I no longer needed or wanted and made a small sum of money. It was a great feeling to have the extra cash in my pocket whilst decluttering the house.
Pros: Extra cash for items you no longer need & a decluttered house
Cons: It can take a while to sell items but don't be demotivated!
Companies to try: Ebay, Facebook Marketplace & Shpock

4. Gig Economy
Over the last few years, there is a whole gig economy emerging. From delivering takeaways to offering services. This can also be another stream of income. Every company varies with their tasks and pay but it may be worth looking into.
Pros: Quick money
Cons: Not good to rely on due to issues with holiday entitlement etc
Companies to try: Amazon Flex & Uber
5. Surveys
I have a love hate relationship with surveys. I find them quite time-consuming for little money but it can still add up, especially if you have a bit of free time at home.
Pros: Can do it anywhere from your phone
Cons: Very time consuming, often for a small reward.
Companies to try: Vypr, Streetbees & YouGov
